Cambridgeshire Pub of the Year
|
Winner: King of the Belgians, Hartford The award was presented by St Ives Town Mayor, Councillor Philip Pope at the 2017 St Ives Booze on the Ouse Beer & Cider Festival to King of the Belgians licensee Matt Spicer. Having been the winners of the Hunts Branch Pub of the Year, the King of the Belgians went forward and won this Pub of the Year award for Cambridgeshire. It now goes forward to the final judging and the overall national CAMRA Pub of the Year, which will be announced in February 2018. |
The following awards were presented in October at the St Ives 'Booze on the Ouse' Beer and Cider Festival at the Burgess Hall. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.
Most Improved Rural Pub of the Year

Winner: Royal Oak, Hail Weston The Most Improved Rural Pub of the Year award went to the Royal Oak, Hail Weston. Branch Chairman Richard Harrison presented the award to licensees Tony Baker, Chris Couzens & Graham Bassett. |
Most Improved Urban Pub of the Year

Winner: Ale Taster, St Neots The Most Improved Urban Pub of the Year award went to the Ale Taster, St Neots. Local Brewer Chris Jones of Papworth Brewery presented the award to the Ale Taster licensee Paul Greenwood. |
Mild & Dark Beer Pub of the Year

Winner: The Falcon, Huntingdon The Mild & Dark Beer Pub of the Year award went to the Falcon, Huntingdon. Local Brewer Jon Neale from the Lord Conrad's Brewery presented the award to the Falcon licensees Alyson, Paul & Nathaniel Hepworth. |
LocAle Pub of the Year

Winner: Royal Oak, St Ives The LocAle Pub of the Year award went to the Royal Oak, St Ives. Booze on the Ouse Bar Manager Kathy Hadfield-Moorhouse presented the award to the Royal Oak licensees Lindsay & Dave Sanderson, and their son. |

The following awards were presented in March at the St Neots 'Booze on the Ouse' Beer and Cider Festival at The Priory Centre. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.
Urban Pub of the Year

Winner: King of the Belgians, Hartford The Urban Pub of the Year award went to the King of the Belgians at Hartford – an urban pub in a picturesque former village setting. Branch Social Secretary Juliet Ferris presenting the award to licensees Matthew and Jane Spicer. |
Community Pub of the Year

Winner: King of the Belgians, Hartford The King of the Belgians is also well known as a genuine community pub, providing a real focal point for those living nearby and hosting regular activities in support of good causes in the locality. The Community Pub of the Year award presented by Dr Nick Ashley from Angles Ales also went to the King of the Belgians. |
Rural Pub of the Year

Winner: The Mermaid, Ellington The Rural pub of the Year award was won by quintessential English village pub the Mermaid at Ellington – a welcoming oak-beamed pub with real fires in winter, great food and a good range of local real ales. Festival real ale bar manager Kathy Hadfield-Moorhouse presented the award to Nicholas Marriott. |
Cider & Perry Pub of the Year

Winner: Oliver Cromwell, St Ives The Oliver Cromwell in St Ives is Cider and Perry Pub of the Year. In addition to Cromwell cider the range of local real draught ciders has been expanded and they now stock ciders from Potton Press and Hardings and two other ciders from further afield. Nicky Warnock, the festivals deputy cider bar manager presented the award to Richard Schonfeldt. |
Club of the Year

Winner: Buckden Village Club The Club of the Year award went to the Buckden Village Club. Branch chairman Richard Harrison presented the award. |
Overall Branch Pub of the Year
|
Winner: King of the Belgians, Hartford Finally the overall Branch Pub of the Year for 2017 is the King of the Belgians, the winner of the award in 2014 and 2015. Jo Coleman and Liz Louch from Oakham Ales presented the happy winners from the King of the Belgians with the award. |
