Pub Awards 2019
The following awards were presented in October at the St Ives 'Booze on the Ouse' Beer and Cider Festival at the Burgess Hall. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.
Most Improved Rural Pub of the Year

Winner: The Three Tuns, Guilden Morden The Most Improved Rural Pub of the Year award went to The Three Tuns, Guilden Morden. Branch Chairman Gareth Howell presented the award which was accepted on behalf of the winning pub by. |
Most Improved Urban Pub of the Year

Winner: The Exhibition, Godmanchester The Most Improved Urban Pub of the Year award went to the Exhibition, Godmanchester. Branch Chairman Gareth presented the award which was accepted at the festival by Branch Secretary Chris Bee for presentation at the pub at a later date. |
Mild & Dark Beer Pub of the Year

Winner: Royal Oak, St Ives The Mild & Dark Beer Pub of the Year award went to the Royal Oak, St Ives. Branch Chairman Gareth presented the award to the Royal Oak licensees Lindsey & Dave. |
LocAle Pub of the Year

Winner: King of the Belgians, Hartford The LocAle Pub of the Year award went to the King of the Belgians, Hartford. Branch Chairman Gareth presented the award to licensee Matt. |
Once again, congratulations to all the winners of the Pub of the Year awards.
During every round of pub awards, there are special award considerations. These consist of Lifetime Achievement awards and Pub Champion awards. These are rarely presented, as they are meant to celebrate those individuals and groups that have made a signification contribution to Pubs and Real Ale & Cider. However, on this occasion we saw it fit to recognise not one, but three individuals and groups with these rare awards; and rightly so in all three cases.
Lifetime Acheivement Award

Awarded to: Paul Moorhouse A Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Paul Moorhouse, in recognition of the lifetime of dedication and support that Paul has given to CAMRA over a number of decades. Paul is still active in CAMRA, as many will know from his work as the East Anglia Coordinator for Champion Beer of Britain awards, but with his recent standing down as the bar manager at BOTO, this was seen as an appropriate time to recognise Paul with this award. |
Lifetime Acheivement Award

Awarded to: Jerry Schonfeld A Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Jerry Schonfeld, who has been a well-respected pub landlord for many decades, notably in the King William in Fenstanton, and up until recently, the Oliver Cromwell in St Ives. He has recently taken the decision to sell the Oliver Cromwell and retire, so now was seen as the ideal time to recognise his lifetime of achievement in the pub trade. |
Pub Champion Award

Awarded to: The Three Tuns Community Group The Three Tuns has been transformed in the last 12 months thanks to the efforts of this local community group. The pub was already quite tired when Greene King closed it in 2013 and then suffered six years of neglect in the ownership of a property developer. It needed a huge amount of work and money to bring it back to life. Fortunately, the village rallied round to save their pub. A Community Benefit Society was established, over £250,000 raised in share capital to buy the pub in November 2018 and then volunteers spent 6 months completely refurbishing the building. In June it opened again with an enthusiastic new tenant. |

Urban Pub of the Year

Winner: The Ale Taster, St Neots The Urban Pub of the Year award went to The Ale Taster, St Neots. The award was presented to the licensees. |
Rural Pub of the Year

Winner: The Chequers, Little Gransden The Rural Pub of the Year award went to the Chequers, Little Gransden. |
Cider Pub of the Year
|
Winner: The Ale Taster, St Neots The Ale Taster in St Neots is the Cider Pub of the Year. |
Community Pub of the Year
|
Winner: Haywain, St Ives The Haywain is a genuine community pub, providing a real focal point for those living nearby and hosting regular activities in support of good causes in the locality. |
